The 2008 Festival of 1000 Bikes
Another fantastic festival. For those of you
who have not come across this before, this is a superb weekend organised
by the VMCC and held in mid-July at Mallory Park. It is a chance
to take your own pride and joy and give it a darned good thrashing around
a racetrack - as well as getting a chance to watch some of the experts
of a few years ago make it look oh so easy... There are machines
of all types and ages there - and they are ALL being ridden. Not
only do you get to drool over your favourite bikes, but you get to hear
them running too. Superb.
The weather prior to this years event was a slight
challenge as it had left the area around the circuit looking like a
herd of Hippos had been having a mudbath, but thankfully the conditions
did improve and it did not spoil the event - but it was close!
My heart was in my mouth when I unloaded my pride and joy from my trailer
into 4 inches of mud, but it was worth it!
For me, one of the highlights was getting to meet some
of my heroes including Agostini, John Cooper, Phil Read and Phil Vincent.
I know have a nice gallery of signed pictures hanging in my study!
It really is a rare chance to get close and personal with these guys
and their machines.
I've tried to capture some of the incredible variety
of machines that were there. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
