Triumph Speed Twin Pictures
The Triumph Speed Twin is the model upon which future twins were based. It was the first very successful twin and was in production from 1938 to 1940 and from 1947 to 1959.
Although not a new concept, this Twin was competitive because of its low weight and light frame. These improvements led to greater speed, performance, and easier handling which made it a superior racing machine.
The Triumph factory produced many 5T motorcycles to be used by the military during WWII. However, during a bombing raid in 1940, the factory was destroyed and all of the technical drawings and specs were lost.
Production would begin again, but not in the Coventry location.
