Thanks to Paul for this picture of his BSA B31.
Here is a shot of my 1957 B31 which i had taken earlirer this year (2011) the bike is in the same (original) condition as when it left the BSA factory even with the same paint job and looks like several cables. I came to own this bike via a mate of mine who purchased it from the Isle of Wight a couple of years ago. At the time (50′s / 60′s) he use to frequent a bike shop in Liverpool called Cundel’s and its from where the bike had originally started out from (badge on the front mudguard denotes this)
It then found its way down onto the Isle of Wight, where it trundled around for a number of decades before my mate bought it from its then owner after a very quick meeting at the IoW ferry port, he bought it on the strength
that-(A) it was in a totally original condition and (B) had originaly came from Cundel’s of Liverpool. He ran it for a few years before selling it to an older friend of his (a Scouser, in Liverpool) who kept it for nearly 12 monthes to the day before i got hold of it in February of this year (2011) since then i have had the mag re vamped and hade done the top end after a ring had broken, dead lucky though in finding genuine new Bsa parts ie valves, springe, piston & rings all still in its genuine BSA wrapping paper from the 1950′s and all parts came together within the same week,
The top end is now run-in and is running nice and sweet.
Yes, Cundles and Victor Horseman were two of the main MC dealers in the 50′s and 60′s in Liverpool.
I wonder how many people accessing this site knew of Cundel’s and even used them maybe the odd MOT.

Paul…..Very nice to see YSJ750 again. I infact brought the BSA to the Isle of Wight in 2003. Have more information for you if you care to contact me.

i bought my first bike from cundels in 1981 a suzuki x7 untill recently i had my own motorbike shop and low and behold an old guy came in and asked did i want to buy a bike turns out its a gs425 rare bird and the reg plate still had the cundels logo he bought it new in 1979.well its now been shipped back to japan turns out they want the small twins back.Am trying to get an a4 folder together ie photos of the many motorbike dealers who were in meresyside to name a few hicklins speedkings bob sargents bill smiths mike westons fothergills if anyone has any photos please upload them or email them to me…regards carl motorcyclesgp@fsmail.net
