Whilst disappointing I am thankful to Paul Klatliewicz of Ducati Technical Services who questioned whether my Sebring has a Desmo engine. Paul believes this bike has the OHC hairpin valve spring cylinder head.
As it has never been my intention to mislead, I am sharing this information and adjusting the price accordingly.
So this is still an exciting early Ducati Sebring big single that rides well and is largely an unmolested low mileage 5 speed.
It is believed to have been one of a shipment to the Berliner Corporation in the US, but unsold it was later sent onto Associated Motorcycles of Plumstead, London in the early 70’s – hence a 1971 UK registration.
It is amazingly unmolested other than for cosmetic work to include; Indicators, Del’Orto carburettor replacing the Amal Mk1, and Electronic Lucas Reeta ignition fitted in 2010. I have only fitted a new rear period number plate and the tank professionally resprayed in its original colours to exemplify the Italian heritage.
The current mileage is only 4662 and looking at historical test certificates issued in; 1996 (Mileage-2283), 2005 (M-2349), 2008 (M-2394), 2010 (M-2401), 2011 (M-2951), 2013 (M-3347), 2014 (M-3664), and its condition – is reasonable to assume is correct.
I can provide more photos and a video from starting, running through to riding it.
Why am I selling it – well that is the torment as sadly I am desperately needing the space in the garage and for that reason, I would consider sensible offers.
