A 1939 Excelsior ridden by myself. It has been off the road since 1965 (judging from the date on the newspaper that was stuffed up the silencer!) and is not going to be restored…. This trip around Mallory Park was it’s very first run since the 1960s, and you can see from my smile on the last picture, just how satisfying it was. Sadly I had a puncture on the last lap, so left the track slightly more slowly than I would have otherwise. But a quick trip to the tyre guys in the paddock had the wheel fixed ready for my second session. Only to find that the darn thing would not fire. Still, the few laps I did achieve were more than I expected..! Many thanks to Dave Lee for all his efforts and advice in getting the engine stripped and rebuilt in time for the event.
