Hi Frank, there are 2 pictures on the site, one on my garage wakk and one after restoration.
The earlier bikes had the Villiers 1f engine, this is a late ’52 and was factory fitted with the 4f engine, both were 98cc
rgds,Alan.
Please could you let us know if you still have the Motorbike that you have restored as we have been offered it on ebay, the “Seller” is in New Jersey USA.
My name is Phil Bown and my Grandfather used to manufacture these bikes, I live in South Africa and I am trying to get hold of 1952 Bown motorcycle, any help in this regard would be much appreciated. I think this could be a scam.
Alan…I have had a Bown with a 4F Engine since 1960…road it for a couple of years to go to college …it was then not used for many years but I kept it…and only finished restoring it about 3months ago..Done about 200 miles since..Joined the local buzzing Club” and hope to get some trips out with it next year….tucked up now with some heat for the winter.
Your bike looks fantastic.
I am in Leicester and would be great to be in touch from time to time..
Hi John, I acquired mine about 7 years ago, I bought it as I was simply curious about the name. I have a collection of classic bikes, most on the site from a Brough Superior to a Rudge Ulster.
rgds Alan.
This is my bike, completely original, manufactured in South Wales early 1950′s
I bought this rare machine some years ago complete but in a rough condition.
Now restored to concourse,
complete with original leg-guards! (not seen another)
I have just received the same model Bowen. Much in need of TLC.
Do you have contact for a service manual for this Bike or as per the age (Is it a “follow your gut instincts manual”?.
Look forward to your reply.
rgds. Collin
I have a 52 Bown for sale – missing silencer and centre stand. 1F engine two speed deluxe model. It was obviously taken off the road after a minor prang, forks are bent backwards a little.
Mine does not use a battery as the model shown here, also no leg shields or carrier. It turns over but I haven’t had it running for 30 years.
Condition is surface rust but not bad.
It was originally sold by Redheads in Northampton.
These may be small bikes but are beautifully built and were very expensive in their day.
Not see this one before ,it is very much like the James of the same period and appears to have a similar Motor ie 98cc or 125cc unit, very reliable
