1955 Triumph Thunderbird 6T Pictures
Add Your Photos! Many thanks to John Boswell for this picture of his glorious Thunderbird. It is another of his fantastic restorations. When he bought it still had its original log book and number for a November 1955 Triumph Thunderbird. From information gathered it was originally in the silver grey 1956 model colour but it had been changed to a much later black and ivory with mouth organ tank badges and a genuine twin carb bonnie 6 stud cyl/head. So he set about removing and selling the old incorrect parts and restored it to as you see in the picture. The restoration included SU carb, early coil ign distributor and cast iron cyl/head, resprayed by himself and new exhaust pipes and a s/hand silencers fitted. It was originally supplied from Poole in Dorset and carries the correct number plate for that area. It’s one of John’s favourite bikes on long or wet runs.
He paid £1400.00 for the bike 4years ago which include several boxes of spares. He removed parts not original, advertised in the Old Bike Mart and sold them all for £1100.00 – apparently the phone rang for at least three month later for the bonnie head and carbs.
Wish it was for sale. Beautiful

Yep 1956 was the year for the model but triumphs would sell you late in 1955 if you paid top dollar it was a clever marketting idea
At the time i was employed at D W THOMAS motorcycle shop in salisbury UK training as a mechanic apprentiship.
I also was mechanic helping RUFUS and TIGER ROSE to become SOUTHERN CENTRE CHAMPIONS in SIDECAR SCRAMBLING GOOD old days.
John Boswell, how long did you work at D W Thomas ? I have A Francis Barnett Plover from 1958 which originated from there, am looking online trying to find some info about the place and got to this page.
Cheers
Bill
I had a Thunderbird 6T with a Watsonian sidecar and what a reliable piece of stuff it was. The only problem I had was when the I did not tighten the dashpot down evenly and it raced like mad. Very embarrassing when going round Marble Arch to join the RAC 24hour rally. In about 1960 I think. I don’t know how the bike would have stood up to the heat here in Thailand.
Your bike looks a cracker although I thought the colour at that time was metallic blue?
Regards
Ron
I have a photo of my Dad on a Triumph Thunderbird with the registration NV0 982, it would be about 1952, I was wondering if it would be possible to trace this bike and how to go about it.
