my first ever motorcycle, cost £250 in 1966, both loved and hated it, the primary chain drove me mad as it constantly gave up (usually at the most importune moment) so much so that i carried spare links etc all the time, on the up side , I could strip and rebuild the old girls engine in two hours flat with no special tools and she was indestructable despite having even hit a wall at 30mph in the snow covered roads of Scotland. My next purchase was a jap ( yamaha 125 twin) very efficient and a great machine but lacked the “character” of the Matchless !
