The word “works” is being misused here. A Works Norton would be one that was manufactured in the Norton race shop only for use by the few official Norton factory riders that made up the Norton works team. Works bikes had parts and features that were not on the roughly 100 production Manx Nortons that were available and sold to the general public each year.
The Manx in the above photo appears to be a modern Manx replica set up for current Vintage racing, it is far, far from being a genuine works machine such as the outside-flywheel Joe Craig Manx Nortons that Ray Amm and others rode to world championships in the early 50s, or the experimental Manx or Domiracer twins that Doug Hele made handfuls of in the late 50s and early 60s.
This delicate works appears as 1962 Works Manx Norton but, in fact it is an excellent replica, far, very far from the true genuine works bikes.
