1965 Grass Track Racing Pictures
Add Your Photos! Thanks to Rob Davies for these pictures that he took at Carmarthen Park on Whit Monday 7th June 1965. Unfortunately he doesn’t know who the individual riders are as their numbers are not clear enough to make out, and after 43 years, his memory is not that good! The number on the sidecar outfit in one photo is no help as the riders’ race numbers did not correspond with the numbers on the bike! The only photo that memory helps with is the one of Lew Coffin who is seen talking in the paddock between races. According to the programme he was riding a 350 & a 500 LCS (Lew Coffin Special Rob presumes) which, again from memory, were JAP engined bikes. The event was held in the pleasant Carmarthen Park and the first race was at 6pm following an afternoon of cycle (pushbike) racing which was held on the concrete banking visible in some shots.
any body want a elstar c15 project in good nic
To the Right of the pic is Speedway and Grass Track GREAT rider, with JAP machines, tuned by Nelson Herring of the West Country!.
A:: I am the Guy who drove the Sidecar outfit Centre No 149 with the Carmarthen park 6 Jacket along with the late KENJO Ken Jones as sidecar Passenger, its the machine we won the Cups at Royal Welsh Show in 1965 & it went on to win Welsh Championship a coupla times.
B: It won a fair bit of ‘funds at Prestatyn Point of Ayr Club long track racing.
C. Also when the Sidecar queen for Llanon wore £20 in 10 shilling notes & the crafty Cardis hoped to ride a Left hand circuit tio keep out myself & the Midlands racers. However I got to hear of that & made a little adaptor so I could also corner left, in spite of not being able to start at same speed as the Cardis, I won the £20 (2nd prize was only £4)
IF anyone can dig any pics of any of that ABC or more & I wd gladly pay for the pics.
Thank you for the £20 in 10 bob notes to the Cardis.!!!!! they were not pleased.
