Once the foibles were sorted out, this was easily the most beautiful of classic English motorcycles. Only a full production year away from the OIF models that got universally panned, a wonderful example of the Brit bike industry thinking it knew better than its customers. I remember seeing the price tag of £420 on these and thinking “how could anyone find that much dough for a bike?”
To me the only rival for sheer beauty in a Brit bike was the Mk1 (fastback) Commando although the later combat-engined ones with that very AJS-looking Interstate 5-gallon tank were pretty hot too.
