Thanks to Cyril Lofthus for this picture of his Horex 350cc single, probably built c. 1950. This would be classed as his first bike, although four young RAF officers in Germany purchased this rarity in 1957 together for £10. The other three took little interest in it but Cyril covered mile after mile on it. It had a single cyl 350cc engine but twin ports, no pillion. Note the shield on the exhaust which Cyril thinks was to prevent burning your shins on the exhaust – it didn’t!
