Matchless G1 Pinto Pictures
Add Your Photos! Thanks to Tim Roberts for identifying this as a re-badged James as the cycle parts look same. Indian handled AMC Matchless/AJS sales in USA prior to the Berliner Corp who took over in late 61. The Matchless name was generally more favoured in the US than AJS & also, and a James badged machine would not have sold well there. So, Indian re-badged them Matchless, probably with agreement from Plumstead, to help sales. Judging by the cylinder head finning, it has AMCs own engine which they tried for a while instead of the previously used Villiers, not succesful though as the Villiers was better.
