Thanks to Bryan Galpin for this nice old picture taken in 1949. "The person riding the 1948 Norton model 18 is my father Jack Galpin who purchased the bike brand new. The guy on the 1949 AJS 500 was known as Crap Man Stevens who was a mate of my Dads. They owned these bikes in Whyalla South Australia & used to race them on the Salt pans speed track just out of Whyalla most Weekends. This is what was the end of dads bike as he crashed it during a race & destroyed the front of the bike. I wish I had it now. Dad told me that his model Norton was the first model with hydraulic front forks. I cant confirm this but believe it to be true. I cant find any other photos of the model 18 before this with these type of front forks."
