1925 Chater Lea 348cc Pictures
Add Your Photos!A 348cc Blackburne powered Chater Lea – the first 350cc machine to break the 100mph barrier. This particular bike is fited with the famous (but non-standard) Binks “Mousetrap” carburettor popular with speedmen in the mid-twenties.
Taking(drive side) or primary side pics of a motorcycle-is stupid beyond belief!
THE BEAUTY AND TRUE PEDIGREE OF A BIKE IS SHOWN FROM THE TIMING SIDE -LOOK BEFORE YOU SHOOT K!
That’s why there is a picture of both sides…. Perhaps you didn’t notice?

Hi There,
This is the CL in the NMM in Birmingham,
It is a fair old Bitsa!!
The engine is a mix of years, engine plates mag platform etc are “modern”
The mudguards are incorrect,
The wrong gearbox is fitted, It should be a Moss. This is why the wide primary guard is there
The primary and secondary chain cases should be cast alloy, the primary should enclose the clutch, The wrong box also means the silencer is not mounted to the frame as it should
I feel it is important to point out these as others may look to “Musuem exhibits for reference
Regards
John
Well said John. There is little virtue in exhibiting any machine with incorrect specification. Hopefully the “differences” from catalogue are pointed out on the billboard, but I doubt it. A maker’s photograph(s) would have been a better source of reference.
