Owner Malcom Halliwell,

1928 500cc Flying Scott Squirrel

I have owned it for a number of years and ride it regularly through out summer. It has had a complete nut & bolt restoration job.  Where unable to carry out work it has been sent out to specialists i.e. gearbox, engine, clutch.   I have done all paint work inc coach lines by hand (am not a painter by trade, but have done a lot of practicing over the years)

I stripped the bike down and re-built it my self, even making numerous parts myself.

  • Manufacturer: Scott
  • Model: Flying Squirrel
  • Engine: 500cc
  • Year: 1928
  • Decade: 1920s

My Dad owned a 1929 & I used to ride on the most uncomfortable pillion seat made! On our rides to Sydney, BC from Victoria we drove the old roads that were basically paved cow trails through the Farmlands! I swore my Dad used to hit every deep pothole, just to make sure I was still on the backend! We owned a great many British bikes, starting with Dad’s 1949 Vincent HRD 1,000 cc Rapide to my first bike a 1960 Triumph Tiger Cub to our University students Ariel Square Four to mention only a few bikes! My Dad started riding when he was stationed in Britain as a Flight Technician during WW2 & passed on the Love of Motorcycling to me What frat memories! One tidbit my Dad drove the Scott to Seattle, where a group of grannies was admiring the Scott. One muttered how quaint a hand warmer for the rider, seeing the big chrome Radiator in frint of the Gas Tank! Thanks again for rekindling some old memories!
