During 1936, Edward Turner took over the Triumph factory and decided to update the existing Val Page designs. This was done in stages by updating existing models to produce an interim Tiger range until the new ranges were ready to be introduced. This is one of these interim models.
It retains the twin down tube frame, gearbox, petrol tank, fork adjusters and tool box of the earlier model, but with the later type engine. This lovely machine is on display at the Coventry Transport Museum.

The 1936 bike shown does not have a ‘later’ type engine, it has an older open valve engine design updated to include a rocker cover and lubrication that was fitted to all Tiger 80′s in ’36, ’37 ,’38, ’39 and ’40. there never was an update. It does have the twin down tube frame that was too expensive to continue in later years and a gearbox only fitted to ’36 models. “36′s are very rare, they were almost prototypes. I have a ’37 model, love it!

ive got one too. in aussie.gunna sell it soon .mr rose is wrong as earlier motors ,35 , are twin port. 36 is the first year of enclosed valves , previously were enclosed rockers only with exposed valves. have sales brochures , although ’36 brochure doesn’t mention tiger range it does state about engine.also selling soon are my ’36 550 sidevalve 5/1 , and my ’35 500 OHV (exposed valve twinport ) 5/5. took 12 years to find correct 8″ qd rear wheel , so good luck stan .you could track me down thru coffs hbr restorers . got a few bits, no tank or wheels but ,vance
