Phelon & Moore 1938 Panther Model 95 Redwing 500cc. A rare survivor from a limited experimental production run of a couple of hundred machines in the run up to World War II. This model was the 81st to be produced and remains one of only a handful still known to exist. Originally purchased by a George Munro from his local dealer ‘Pride and Clarke’ (P&C shop badge still attached to the front mudguard) the m/c passed on some 30 years later to another well known local owner one Alex Brett.
I owned a 1939 Model 95 in the 1945 to 1949 time period.
Traded a 1935 Ariel 350 straight across with a fellow who couldn’t start the Panther.
The reason was because one of the timing gears had two keyways, and he had the gear in the wrong keyway.
It is still very fondly remembered, and I have a good picture of it.
I used it all the way through University, and even rode it all one Saskatchewan winter, even in miserable conditions, even though it had no windshield.
For fun, I had installed a siren on it, and had wired a horn switch in the left rubber knee grip, that I could activate with my knee.
I sold it to a native aboriginal, who in turn traded it for moonshine.
It had been brought into Canada by the Nicholson Brothers of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Bernie Nicholson was quite anxious to locate the bike as he would have liked to add it to his collection.
As far as I know, Bernie died before locating the machine.
It was nice to see a picture of that model on the internet
I am now 86 years old, but still wish I had hung on to the bike.
About the only interesting thing that I now have is a1956 Messerschmitt KR 200 cabin scooter.

What I try to find out is the original Paint scheme. I have also another “Panther” emblem for the tank. I cannot locate a website with the original color scheme.

I own this bike , 1938 panther red wing 95 it’s been fully restored . Has Y 1038 frame number with matching engine numbers . Just had the bike issued with a dating certificate been told it’s very rare as only 4 exist in the world .
There were two of these M95 1938 up and running for the Oz Panther Rally in South Australia a few weeks ago. Perhaps about 6 of them in Oz. Panther Owners Club can still assist with parts and information’
