Thanks to George Macnaughton of Townsville Queensland for this picture.  It shows him aged 19 on his 1957 Douglas Dragonfly 350cc outside the 11th century abbey in Dunfermline Scotland trying for an Ancient to Modern (as it was then!) photo. Note the Belstaff PVC suit and the Kangol cork lined helmet with painted on Dragonfly!

Pride and Clarke were selling the Douglas Dragonfly new in 1957 for £149.10 shillings, I owned one in 1958, they were very difficult to sell most dealers did not want to take them in part exchange, the Skoda of the motorcycles , nice to ride I loved the bike, spares were hard to come by even in 1958

I bought the above Douglas TYR34 new from Pride and Clarke for £160, if I remember correctly. I was In the Royal Air Force at RAF Turnhouse at the time, and my parents lent me the cash to buy the Dragonfly. It was sent up to my home town of Kirkcaldy by train, and as I was working the weekend on Duty Crew, my friend Ed Bowie collected it for me. I had many happy hours in the saddle. She would cruise two up all day at 80mph, and with the low centre of gravity, was absolutely delightful on corners.
I missed her when I sold her to a friend called Bob Bease from Kirkcaldy.
