1959 Zundapp Citation Pictures
Add Your Photos! Thanks to Gerald Wendt of Wisconsin for this picture of his girlfriend (currently his wife) on his 450cc Zundapp Citation. He bought this bike new in 1959, for $850.00. He doesn’t know what happened to the bike. He sold it to his dad and he sold it to a local rider, who is now deceased.
Hi,
great interesting foto. I bought 20 years ago a Citation, which originally came from wisconsin.
Do you still know the engine-/frame-number? So I could check whether it is yours or not.
Best regards from Germany,
Hermann
Hi Hermann
The only way I could tell if it were mine is by a mark on the frame. I blew a rod on it and it busted both halves of the crank case. And the rod hit the frame and dented it. might even have bent it slightly.
Sorry about the late reply. But I just happened to run across this today.
God Bless

Hi there, Bernie from ‘Adler to Zundapp Club UK’ It’s strange and yet to find out the reason why it was called a Zundapp ‘Citation’ because the bike apart from the badge on the tank! is a HOREX’ IMPERATOR 400 The only reason i can think of is that Zundapp was a well known make in the States so it may have helped sales
Hi Bernie
I found the advertisement for the Zundapp Citation in a 1958 Popular Science Magazine. For $850.00. So I had one of our local motorcycle dealers order me one. It was built by Horex for Zundapp. There were about 4 or 5 450cc Zundapps in the state of Wisconsin at that time.
God Bless

Hello I`m interested to buy a Zündapp Horex Citation. Can you help? Best regards Alexander
Hi Hahn
Sorry, I don’t know of any 450cc Zuvdapp’s around here. I have been looking for mine. But haven’t had any luck in tracking it down. Sure would like to find it. One time in the 1950′s I had a chance to buy a Vincent Black Shadow for $900.00. Missed that one to. So haven’t had much luck in getting anything worth collecting. Although I have two Suzuki GS750′s from 1980 and 1982 so there might be some hope yet. Ha Ha

I have a 58 zundapp citation l bought at a rummage sale over 35 years ago. I road it some until something caused the rear wheel to lock up and slid to a stop. I am retired now and digging it out, hope to get it going again this summer. Geoffrey
