1962 Triumph Tiger Cub T20 Pictures

Thanks to Alan Goff for these pictures of his Cub. It left Triumph Works on 18th April 1962 to Comerfords Ltd and its date of original registration is 18th March 1963. Lan was the 3rd owner when he bought it in August 1968 and was last used in 1977. SInce then it has been left off road in a garden under a plastic cover for about 12 years then in a friend’s garage for about 18 years! He was going to rebuild it for Alan, started, but did not finish. 30 years after being off the road Alan got the bike back to restore with his friend Robert Beagley in June 2007. It was completely stripped down and rebuilt, finishing in November 2007.
Front and rear wheels – Strip, blast and paint hubs, supply steel rims with stainless spokes and fit innertubes and Avon Mk.II tyres and 4 bearings by Graeme Dollery of Titchfield, Hampshire.
Paintwork – Frame, petrol tank, oil tank, mudguards and painted parts stripped and re-sprayed black and silver and lacquered where appropriate by Russell of Dresda
Engine – Engine stripped down completely crankcase shot blast, aluminium covers polished. Replaced ball race bearings, bushes, valve guides, new valves, new piston rings, mainshaft cluster, nuts and bolts etc. Most parts from Greystone Enterprises and Harwoods of Richmond. Various other parts & Sundries from Kempton Park Auto Jumble.
Electricals – Replaced all wiring, new coil, rectifier fitted.
Upholstry – New seat cover and moulded foam by R.K.Leighton of Birmingham.
Cost of Restoration
Parts including any postage £2,129.51
Sundries £86.40
V.A.T. £387.78
Total £2,603.69
Thankyou for posting this picture,a friend of mine rode one of these in the 60,s from Swansea to millford haven to work as a scaffolder ,every day for a good few years ,I talked to him today not for the first time about it.No goggles no specialized clothing to say he was either nuts or hard as nails is an understatement,When I was 9 years old my dad bought that bike off him(wish I had it now)I have asked a member of my family to try to copy this photo.althogh not the same bike,to print it out I will frame it for him it will bring back memories I am sure.Thanks again hope you dont mind…….cheers.

To Alan Goff: I saw your article on cub shock rebuild and duplicated your toolage, but couldn’t get the damn chrome inserts to drop after squeezing the shock. only thing happened was the legs on the ring pusher too “splayed ” out- whats los with these cub shocks Mine is a 1962 T20SS…….

I am going to look at what appears to be a nicely restored 62 Cub with a view to buying it. The picture above shows a 62 with the enclosure piece fitted . Did all the T20 basic road models have the enclosure piece fitted in 62 ? Perhaps you could give me some pointers on what to look for when buyind.
PS the bike I am going to see does not have the enclosure fitted .
