  2. I am the elder brother of Michael Ing who raced a DMW Hornet Starmaker with a 5speed gearbox in the mid sixties for two seasons. I have a DMW Hornet Starmaker with a 4speed gearbox that I will wish to sell. The front fork staunchtions have been restored by “Pitted Forks” of Bedford. The cylinder barrel rebored and new piston by Villiers and the crankshaft re-furbished by Alpha Bearings Ltd, both of Dudley West Midlands. The frame has been powder coated metallic silver, the chrome parts have been re-chromed, and the aluminium parts are being buffed &polished now.

The DMW Hornet I will wish to sell soon, is probable a 1964 or 65. It presumable originally had double sided front brakes, like the orange & white Hornet pictured above. I have the ‘clip on’ handle bar lever for twin front brake cables. The bike is now converted to the later BHC twin leading shoe front brake. Taper roller bearings for the steering head are on order now, the front wheel and forks can then be assembled. The rebored barrel and new piston are being matched. The machining mod’s are done to allow the ‘Moto-Plat’ Ignition to be fitted. All of the engine castings have been bead blasted and the jointing faces have been lapped flat. A new set of gaskets and a new primary chain have been obtained from Villiers. I have a brand new straight out of the mould ‘Jakeman’ fairing and screen waiting to be fitted. The bike has not been used since the 60′s and the tyres with it of that era. Regards Brian Ing

    • Hello Brian,
Do you still have your Hornet and are you still interested in selling it. I am looking to purchase one ASAP.
      Thanks
      Neil

    Hello Neil,
Yes I still have the DMW, and I am still keen to sell it. I have up dated my restoration progress below.
The restored stanchions, replated yokes, and repolished fork sliders, have been fitted to the powder coated frame with the new steering head bearings. A new front brake torque arm is being manufactured. I am working on the mods to the piston matching the boost ports.
The crankshaft clearances, within the crankcases, the piston squish clearance, port timing and ring gaps, need to be checked. If you are interested perhaps we should arrange for you view it, if it is geographically feasible. I live in South Buckinghamshire. My telephone No is 01628 526871, I look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards Brian Ing
