My first was a 1961 Excelsior 98cc, two speeds on a good day, bought with two mates for ten bob each. After being thrashed around fields for a couple years it became my ride to work at the start of my apprenticeship – usually slipping the clutch in 2nd (top) gear to 15mph. Not exactly an exciting ride but it did teach me to corner without slowing down!
